A dozen people were rescued by firefighters after a fire broke out in a Glasgow city centre shop basement.
Emergency services were called to Argyle Street one morning last week, and rescued the 12 people from flats above the building.
A total of 40 firefighters contained the basement blaze using eight appliances and no casualties were reported, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said
Traffic was prevented from using Argyle Street between James Watt Street and York Street.
Strathclyde Fire and Rescue’s Jim Doyle confirmed that firefighters led 12 people to safety.
“Basement fires are, by their nature, arduous and incredibly dangerous,” he said.
“The crews who were involved in this incident did an incredible job in battling through intense smoke to tackle the fire in such extreme conditions to ensure it was extinguished as quickly as possible.”
Strathclyde Police and Strathclyde Fire and Rescue have launched a joint investigation into the cause of the fire.
