Colleges are to spend more than £194 million in building new facilities, the Government has revealed.
A total of 22 institutions are investing £80.5 million of their own money and benefiting from £113.8 million of Government grants to fund the work.
The public money comes from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills’ College Capital Investment Fund.
Budding construction workers are among the learners that will benefit from a large chunk of the money. The largest construction training centre in the Nottinghamshire region is to be built by New College Nottingham at the cost of £27 million, while York College will have its own £6 million construction training facility at its Sim Balk Lane site. It is thought that £2 million of the money needed for the work will come from Whitehall.
Bradford College is also one of the 22 institutions. It is to build a new Advanced Technologies Centre in the city.
