Hundreds of pupils were evacuated from a primary school after asbestos was discovered in the building, it has been revealed.
A total of 447 children were moved from Flora Stevenson primary school in Edinburgh to Broughton High school to be collected by their parents after the hazardous substance was found during routine work.
Edinburgh City Council said that tests are to be carried out on the building before pupils will be allowed to return.
Mike Rosendale, the council’s head of schools, said: “A small quantity of asbestos has been disturbed at Flora Stevenson primary school during routine work which took place out of school hours.
“We will keep parents and staff informed of the situation and more information about the reopening of the school will be available soon.”
