Fire swept through a large recycling plant in Stockport, forcing the closure of roads, with dozens of firefighters tackling the blaze throughout Tuesday night.
The fire broke out at the plant on Stockport Road West in Bredbury.
At first, five crews and an aerial appliance were sent to the incident but another five crews were soon sent with a total of 50 firefighters working to control the blaze at the work site.
A large plume of smoke was heading towards Tameside, reported Sean Booth, the officer in charge for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
Mr Booth said although the smoke was not directly affecting the motorway, people should still take extra care in the area.
The crews contained the fire and later lifted some road closures and restrictions, although Mr Booth said the emergency services would stay at the site “for longer than today”.
