Air conditioning units have seen plenty of use in the hot weather during the last few weeks, but one system has been used for an entirely different reason – a home for a litter of kittens.
Staff at energy industry firm Technip in Westhill, Aberdeenshire heard their meowing and called the Scottish SPCA. Officers found four kittens thought to be around three weeks old inside the unit and took them to the charity’s rescue centre at Drumoak.
The assistant manager at the centre, Debbie Innes, said she thought the kittens’ mum could have given birth to them in the unit or may have moved them there to be safe. She said they were hungry when they were rescued and their eyes were dry and red.
Dusty, Harrison, Crystal and Morgan, as the rescue centre staff have called them, are now well-fed and doing fine but they are not yet ready for new homes.
Air conditioning, ventilation, ducting and extraction systems need to be monitored regularly by professionals to make sure they are working properly and there are no blockages – even feline ones.
