Fears that a burned building may collapse have kept firefighters at the scene of a blaze, after they fought for 10 hours to bring the flames under control.
Fat Cats pub in Bridge Street, Northampton caught on fire on Monday at around 4.30pm. Nearby streets have been closed because the building could still collapse, and to allow an investigation into how the fire began.
Flames started on the first floor of the building and spread to the second floor and the roof. But firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading further along the building.
No blaze injuries have been reported but one fire crew member was slightly hurt when a section of floor collapsed inside the pub.
Mark Ainge, from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue, said: “Four appliances and a command unit are still at the scene. They are focused on damping down and salvage work to support the building to minimise the risk of building collapse.”
He added that Bridge Street and nearby Angel Street will be closed until further notice.
