A dirty kitchen has landed the boss of an Ipswich takeaway with a hefty fine.
Rong Zhang has been ordered to pay nearly £6,500 after debris, food, grease and grime were discovered on the floor, work surfaces, and appliances at the Fortune Inn in Woodbridge Road.
Food hygiene officers from Ipswich Borough Council carried out two inspections of the premises in the space of three days.
But even after issuing a warning to Zhang on January 9, the kitchen of the Chinese restaurant was still in a mess when officers returned to carry out the second check on January 11.
She pleaded guilty to four hygiene offences at South East Suffolk Magistrates Court and was fined £350 for each.
Zhang was also ordered to pay the borough council’s cost of bringing the case which came to £5,000, as well as £30 towards the victims’ fund.
“This is now our third such court case in last few months,” said a spokesman for Ipswich Borough Council. “Our focus this year is to target persistent poor performers and especially those with poor food hygiene ratings.”
