Five people had to be rescued after a fire broke out at a takeaway in Glasgow city centre on August 7.
When firefighters arrived at the Express Takeaway on Sauchiehall Street at 9.40pm the blaze was already “well-developed” and had entered the building’s ventilation ducts.
No-one was injured during the incident, but the firefighters had to work for several hours to contain the flames and make sure the site was safe, with no-one else trapped inside.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is being conducted by Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and Strathclyde Police.
Under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 all commercial properties in Scotland have undergone a ‘suitable and sufficient’ fire risk assessment.
If this is judged to be unsuitable the duty officer for the premises can face up to two years in prison or an unlimited fine.
