A fire that broke out at a Northamptonshire nut factory was described as “substantial” by fire crews.
Northamptonshire Fire Service attended the blaze at Quality Nut Products at Cavalry Hill Industrial Park, Weedon, near Daventry, shortly before 03:30 BST.
A total of 90 firefighters contained the fire and it had minimal impact on homes and businesses nearby.
Some firefighters remain at the scene damping down the remnants, while a probe has been launched to find out its cause.
Local man Damon Emery, 45, said a loud “crackling” noise from the fire woke him at around 03:50 and at first he assumed someone was setting off fireworks before realising what had really happened.
Luke Hodson, of Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, said locals were advised to keep their doors and windows closed but if the smell had got inside their homes they should just allow it to “dissipate naturally”.
He added: “We will have a presence here for a number of days and there will be a joint investigation into the cause of the fire.”
