An investigation is underway into a blaze which broke out at a university building.
At one stage, more than 50 firefighters were tackling the fire at the University of Strathclyde’s James Weir building on Montrose Street, Glasgow, after the blaze broke out.
The adjoining Union, on John Street, had to be evacuated after the fire hit the building, which houses lecture theatres and classes for the body’s chemical and engineering departments.
Fire crews’ operations were said to have been “complicated” by the presence of hazardous chemicals.
Early reports that the fire was chemical in nature were not confirmed by the service.
Strathclyde Fire and Rescue’s Deputy Assistant Chief Officer Jim Doyle said: “Firefighters fought through acrid smoke and intense heat in an extremely complex building with interlinking corridors to fight this fire.”
