A fire in the kitchen of a takeaway restaurant has left the owner with thousands of pounds worth of damage to repair.
The Cinnamon Tree Indian takeaway in Gwent needed a total of 30 firefighters to tackle the flames, which took five hours to go out and had spread to the shop next door.
The South Wales Argus reported that smoke was seen billowing from the premises’ roof on March 25 at 3.30pm.
The manager of the takeaway said the damage caused by the fire would cost him thousands of pounds to repair, including redecorating and replacing kitchen equipment.
A spokeswoman from the South Wales and Fire Rescue Service said the cause of the fire was deemed accidental.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, all commercial properties in England and Wales must undergo a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment.
If such an assessment is carried out to an insufficient standard, the person responsible may face prosecution as either a fine or prison sentence of up to two years.
