An elderly woman had to be rescued by fire crews and taken to hospital after a blaze broke out in a care home in North Wales.
It took four fire crews around two hours to get the fire at Fairhaven Rest Home in Colwyn Bay under control after they were called to the scene at 6.09am on July 11.
As well as one woman requiring hospital treatment, another resident was treated at the scene and the first and second floors suffered serious smoke damage, while flames caused significant damage to the room the fire started in.
All commercial properties in England and Wales must undergo a ‘suitable and sufficient’ fire risk assessment in order to comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
And if it is not conducted sufficiently, an unlimited fine or even a jail sentence of up to two years can be imposed.
It is not yet clear what caused the fire in the Conwy care home but an investigation has now been launched.
