A cheese warehouse has gone up in flames in Somerset, a fire service said.
More than 100 firefighters were sent to tackle the blaze at Adams Foods’ warehouse in Wincanton on Wednesday night.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze at the warehouse – containing hundreds of tonnes of cheddar – was among the worst in recent memory.
Some 10 fire crews were sent to the fire, which started at about 10.15pm.
With the fire at its peak and the warehouse engulfed in flames, people living nearby were advised to stay at home.
Paul Slaven, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman, said: “It was certainly one of the biggest incidents we have had in some years.
“Just the number of crews and resources sent to the scene alone, and that crews were there throughout the night and a presence will be maintained throughout today. It was a significant fire.”
The warehouse has now collapsed, firefighters said.
