The owners of a South Yorkshire care home have been prosecuted after ignoring a warning from enforcement officers and not meeting fire safety regulations.
Park Care Ltd, which owns the Park Grange Nursing Home in Kendray near Barnsley, did not have an adequate fire risk assessment or sufficient fire emergency procedures and the premises also had defective fire doors.
The firm has been fined over £10,000 as a result and Terry Guthrie from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said a fire at the home would have been disastrous. He warned other homes that “swift action” would be taken against infringements.
“These breaches were so serious that had there been a fire at the home there was a real danger that residents would have been seriously injured or worse,” he said.
Park Care Ltd received the fine after pleading guilty to three separate breaches of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
