Two rogue residential landlords have been fined for a range of safety and licensing breaches in Oxford, according to reports.
Landlords Mulazim Hussain and Momodu Chune owned separate houses in the east of the city that breached legislation regarding multiple occupation and fire safety.
Oxford Magistrates’ Court heard that Mr Hussain had 10 occupants living in filthy conditions at his property, and that he failed to register the house with Oxford City Council for multiple occupancy.
The court fined Mr Hussain £6,730, not including victims’ surcharges and costs, after inspectors found 13 defects at the squalid house, including faulty fire doors and the lack of a valid electrical certificate
Mr Chune was fined £635 for failing to comply with regulations surrounding multiple occupancy, after seven people were discovered living in his property, in addition to an out-of-order smoke alarm and the lack of a gas appliance test certificate for the property.
