A fire destroyed the roof and ductwork of a south-west London restaurant on Wednesday night.

Four firecrews tackled the blaze at the You Me Korean restaurant in New Malden with London Fire Brigade reporting the incident on Twitter.

The fire, which started around 6pm, destroyed the majority of the roof, gutted the piping and damaged a tenth of the first floor. No-one was injured in the incident.

Resident Yasmean Elghaly told the Surrey Comet that the whole road was closed and filled with fire engines, police vans and a paramedic’s car.

“It might be in the back not the front. There is a strong smell of burning,” she said.

London Fire Brigade tweeted: “Part of a restaurant on Burlington Rd in New Malden KT3 is alight. Four fire engines at the scene.”
