Two firms and a director involved in Liz Hurley’s wedding to Arun Nayar have been fined for health and safety regulation breaches after a workman died in the grounds of a castle where their nuptials took place.
On April 30, 2007, Polish labourer Krysztof Wiecek, 45, was electrocuted by an 11,000-volt overhead power cable while taking down a marquee at Sudeley Castle, in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, a few weeks after Hurley and Nayar had married at the 15th-century castle.
Wiecek died in hospital after the cable, which was situated just a metre from the marquee roof, brushed the back of his head.
At Gloucester Crown Court, the directors of Sudeley Castle Ltd, Henry Dent-Brocklehurst and his sister Mary Dent-Brocklehurst, were fined £10,000 and ordered to pay £10,000 in costs.
Meanwhile, Value for Money Co Ltd, which organised the event, was fined £11,000, and ordered to pay £10,000 costs, and James Pemble, director of marquee company Zomar, was fined £8,000 plus £8,000 costs.
