Fire crew in Glasgow have tackled a blaze that broke out in a derelict factory in the city centre.
The fire started in the early hours of July 27 and crew from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service attending the scene.
Gary Wallace, group commander, said firefighters were met with a well-developed fire, and flame had already spread to the roof when they arrived at the scene.
To prevent the flames from spreading to a nearby John Lewis and Tedesco tile store, fire crew created ‘water curtains’, while two high-tech REACh appliances were used.
Firefighters also used breathing apparatus and entered the building to bring the fire under control.
Under the Fire Act 2005 commercial properties in Scotland must have a suitable risk assessment carried out.
If the assessment is deemed not to have been carried out properly, the duty holder for the establishment could face a huge fine and a possible two-year jail term.
