Around 50 firefighters struggled to deal with the intensity of a blaze that broke out in a row of shops in Glasgow.
At one stage, fire crews were forced to withdraw from the scene, as flames engulfed a series of retail outlets on Archerhill Road in Knightswood.
Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service said that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Additional response units were drafted in from Govan, Dumbarton, Yorkhill and Maryhill to help deal with the blaze. It is expected that Archerhill Road will remain closed for the time being as crews remain on the site.
A statement released by Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service said: “The building, comprising of nine shops, was severely damaged by the fire and a determination will be made later today regarding the safety of the structure.”
The fire broke out at around 2am and it is thought that a number of shops have been affected. Teams from local police and fire investigation units are working in conjunction to ascertain the circumstances behind the blaze.
