Firefighters tackling recycling plant blaze

Firefighters are tackling a blaze at a Teeside wood recycling plant a full week after it started.

Firefighters are tackling a blaze at a Teeside wood recycling plant a full week after it started.

A stack of wood at the UK Wood Recycling plant in Wilton, near Redcar, caught fire on Monday, December 23 and has yet to be fully extinguished.

Fire crews from Cleveland Fire Brigade are still moving the burning wood to put out the fire and they expect to be busy at the site for “some considerable time”.

Dave Turton, Head of Fire Engineering at Cleveland Fire Brigade, is advising residents in the area to keep their windows and doors shut to keep the “increasing” amount of smoke out of their homes.

Fire investigators won’t be able to look into the cause of the blaze in the wood recycling plant until it has been fully dampened down.
