Consumers of Flame Grilled Chicken Chunks have been alerted after Spar recalled a batch of the product found to contain the bacteria listeria.
The affected batch was distributed to the Midlands and Wales and has a use-by date of March 3, 2012. The bug can cause a mild infection that can result in vomiting and diarrhoea.
Spar detected the danger after conducting routine testing, which concluded there were “low levels” of the bacteria in the chicken.
According to the NHS, symptoms should wear off after three days without any treatment.
In a statement to the Food Standards Agency, Spar said: “Consumers who have bought the affected product should not consume it and return it to Spar for a refund.”
